Chelsea’s Oscar Slaughtered By Jamie Carragher Over 'Embarrassing' China Deal

Carra isn't a fan of the big-money move.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar is set to become one of the most expensive footballers in the world when the January transfer window opens next month but Jamie Carragher has branded his impending move to China "embarrassing".

As we told you earlier this week, the 25-year-old Brazil international will be heading to the Chinese Super League to play for Shanghai Shenhua in a transfer worth around £52 million to the Blues.

After failing to win over Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, a parting of the ways in January always seemed likely, but the fact Oscar has opted to take the massive wages on offer in the Far East hasn't gone down well with Carragher.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, the Liverpool legend said:

"It is a sad day for football when a player about to enter his prime moves for financial reasons and nothing else.

"The money is astronomical, but it's not as if he is on a pittance at Chelsea.

"He will talk about the league growing in China, the chance to work with Andre Villas-Boas and the excitement about a new adventure-but we all know those words will be nonsense.

"He has gone for the size of the contract. Nothing else. Players used to look for a pay day in their mid-thirties when their career was coming to an end. We all understood that.

"With the riches now on offer in China, I could understand a player's head getting turned when he reaches 30 - but 25?"

"It's embarrassing that a player would give up his career and the chance to compete for the biggest prizes in the game just for money."

Carragher certainly isn't a fan of the move. Do you agree with the Liverpool legend? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
