AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta has insisted that Manchester United and Inter Milan should consider an absurd swap deal involving Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen.

Van De Beek, 23, was the Red Devils' major summer signing after he was snapped up from Ajax in a reported £35m deal.

However, the Dutch midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI and made several cameo appearances from the bench in United's Premier League matches.

Eriksen, 28, has also failed to replicate his Tottenham impact at Inter since his arrival in Serie A in January.

And now the Danish attacking midfielder has found himself on the chopping block as he no longer fits in Antonio Conte's long-term plans and Inter are keen to reduce their wage bill.

According to CalcioMercato, Costacurta believes that both United and Inter would benefit more if they decided to swap Eriksen and Van De Beek in a deal.

"Eriksen would be someone to exchange with someone who does not play in England," the 54-year-old told Italian TV.

"With Manchester United, Arsenal. Van de Beek, for example, could be a good idea for Inter."

Eriksen, who was signed from Spurs for £16.9m, was on the bench for Inter's 3-2 Europa League final defeat to Sevilla in August.

The former Spurs star has only made four starts in Serie A this season, with Inter sitting one point behind rivals AC Milan.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta recently told Sky Sports that Eriksen was amongst the players who are likely to be axed next month.

"Eriksen is among the transfers," the 63-year-old Italian admitted.

"It's not a punishment but he has struggled to settle into the squad... so it is right to give him the opportunity to find more space elsewhere."
