Harry Kane has released a statement explaining why he was not at Tottenham training this week.

The England captain, who is heavily courted by Manchester City and is believed to want out at Spurs, did not show up for training - much to the surprise of many - earlier this week.

Kane was initially in Bahamas and then continued his holiday period in Florida, with Spurs said to be unhappy with the actions of their talisman.

But on Friday, the 28-year-old took to Twitter to give some clarity on his situation.

Saying he feels "hurt" by some of the comments questioning his professionalism, Kane stated that he has "never refused" to training and will be returning to the club on Saturday "as planned".

"It's almost ten years since I made by Spurs debut. For every one of those years, you - the Spurs fans - have shown me total support and love," Kane wrote.

"That's why it hurts to read some of the comments that have been made this week, questioning my professionalism.

"While I won't go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train.

"I will be returning to the club tomorrow, as planned.

"I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the relationship I have with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club.

"This has always been the case as it is today."

Because of the quarantine situation and the need to self-isolate before taking a COVID-19 release test, Kane was not expected to be back at Spurs until next week at the very earliest.

But he claims he will be returning tomorrow after being given time off following the European Championship.

New Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo is yet to speak to his main man since his appointment, with the situation less than ideal going into the new campaign.

Incidentally, Spurs start the season with a home game against Premier League champions City, who are desperate to sign him as Sergio Aguero's replacement.

In a press conference on Friday, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed City's interest in Kane following the record-breaking £100 million capture of his England teammate Jack Grealish.

"He is a player for Tottenham Hotspur and if Tottenham don't want to negotiate, it is finished," Guardiola said.

"I think Man City and many clubs in the world want to try to sign him, we are not an exception, but it depends on Tottenham.

"It is different to Jack. He had the release [clause] and Jack is different. Harry is exceptional and we are interested in him but if Tottenham don't want to negotiate, nothing more to say."

Although there has been talk of Kane feeling as though he has a "gentlemen's agreement" with Daniel Levy to leave, Spurs are adamant they will not sell.

Kane, who has scored 221 goals in 336 appearances for Spurs, is still contracted until 2024 because of a six-year deal he signed in 2018.
