Former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates brought new meaning to the word "hat-trick" last night when he conceded THREE penalties as Sporting lost 3-2 at home to Rio Ave.
Incredibly, the Uruguayan international fouled Mehdi Taremi three times inside the area and was eventually given his marching orders for his final offence after being shown a second yellow, completing the most miserable day at the office.
Having come from a goal down, Sporting were 2-1 up and looking on course for victory in the 84th minute before Coates' costly errors led to their first defeat of the season.

Filipe Augusto put away two of the spot-kicks, including the winner in stoppage time, with fellow Ronan Jerônimo confidently putting away his penalty.
The defensive horror show from Coates is one of the worst performances in recent memory and is well up there with Jonathan Woodgate's infamous debut at Real Madrid.

The England defender waited a year to make his bow for Los Blancos and it couldn't have gone worse as he scored an own goal and was sent off against Athletic Bilbao.
