Diego Costa Takes A Pop At Spanish Media

Diego Costa Takes A Pop At Spanish Media

Is he right?

Diego Costa is very good at playing the victim. The Chelsea striker has in the past complained about being hounded by referees and the press in England and now the Brazilian born Spaniard has decided to have a go at the press from his adopted country.

Costa famously played one friendly for his country of birth before turning his back on Brazil to instead play for Spain, a move that up to now has been detrimental to Brazil, Spain and Costa himself to a point with the former Atleti man not fitting in well with Spain's system and Brazil crying out for a decent target man.

The Chelsea man came on as a substitute in Spain's friendly with Belgium last night as David Silva grabbed both goals in a 2-0 win in Julen Lopetegui's first game in charge of the national team. Costa had a good game but in the 'Mixed Zone' after the game aimed a verbal shot at the Spanish media:

"Yourselves, the journalists, you should assess my performance in this friendly but I felt I did well.

"If I was at Real Madrid or Barca, you would be saying that I had a great game but as I am not a natural Spaniard, people always criticise me in a special way.

"I won't change, even if I'm criticised. It's true that I'm wrong sometimes but I don't need anyone to tell me. I can do self-criticism. My team-mates trust me."

It seems like everyone's favourite footballing bastard is starting to get a bit of a paranoia complex. Sure he might come in for a bit of rough treatment now and again from press and referees but he doesn't help himself.
