Conor Coady hilariously laughed off talk of a potential return to Liverpool after Jamie Carragher claimed Jurgen Klopp is considering signing him as a replacement for the injured Virgil van Dijk.

Coady, a Liverpool fan who came through their youth ranks, was teased by Carragher following Wolves' 1-0 win at Leeds United on Monday.

The Sky Sports pundit joked that Klopp is eyeing the England international as a replacement for Van Dijk, who suffered an ACL injury during the Merseyside derby.

From the studio, Carragher told Coady: "You won't be aware but Jurgen Klopp tonight has done his Champions League press conference ahead of the game with Ajax.

"He's actually mentioned you and two other players who he thinks could actually be replacements for Virgil van Dijk, would that come into your thinking?"

Coady brilliantly batted away his transfer claim: "I can't believe you've just put this on me here, no!

"I can't believe it. Not at all, I love playing for this football club every single day.

"We've just beat Leeds in an amazing, amazing game."

Carragher then added: "You must be honoured though, with Klopp saying that?"

Coady replied: "Listen, you know what I'm like mate!"

Monday Night Football host Dave Jones weighed in: "Conor, don't believe a word he is saying. Don't get dragged into that honestly!"

Coady, 27, has been with Wolves since 2015 and has enjoyed a superb spell with the Midlands outfit.

He helped his side win promotion to the Premier League in 2018 and has been an ever present at the back, starting every single game in the top flight.

The former Liverpool player also recently made his England debut, scoring his first international goal against Wales.
