Stan Collymore is getting a lot of stick for his comments on the incident between James McCarthy and Salomon Rondon on Saturday.

The Everton midfielder suffered a horrible double-leg fracture as he attempted to make a routine challenge on Rondon in the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

With the Venezuelan already swinging his leg back to shoot, momentum meant he kicked the back of McCarthy's leg and the Irishman lay in agony.

Rondon was visibly distressed, shouting at the referee to stop the game and then being seen in tears after McCarthy was stretchered off as a result of the unfortunate collision.

The Baggies striker sent a classy message to the former Wigan Athletic man and also pledged to visit him in hospital.

The former Zenit and Malaga hitman has received praise from Everton fans for the way he conducted himself, but somehow, former Premier League striker Collymore has been critical of him.

Bizarrely, Collymore used Rondon's reaction to pinpoint a 'lack of physicality' in the league and says there was no need for tears from him.

"Salomon Rondon's tearful reaction to James McCarthy's awful injury was interesting - and it reiterated what I said a couple of weeks ago about the lack of physicality in the game these days," he wrote in his Birmingham Mail column.

"Broken legs are part of football and always have been, and just as there was no blame on Rondon, so there was no need for any tears from him.

"It's a tough game at times and I don't want to see the West Brom Number nine now using what happened at the weekend to McCarthy as an excuse for any dip in form. He must roll his sleeves up and move on."

Subsequently, the former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker felt the wrath of fans on social media:

Given how much previous he has drumming up furious reactions on Twitter, we can't imagine it will be too long before Collymore angers another section of social media with another hot take.
