James McCarthy suffered an awful injury on Saturday afternoon when a routine tackle accidentally ended up with a double leg break for the Evertonian. The other player involved in the incident, Salomon Rondon, will visit him in hospital.

On Saturday Everton played hosts to West Brom in a 1-1 draw but the biggest moment of the game was the unfortunate story of McCarthy picking up a quite horrific injury.

The Evertonian went to challenge Rondon as the Venezuelan striker went to have a shot in the box. McCarthy won the ball but Rondon was already taking the strike and kicked the back of his opponents leg, leading to him needing to be stretchered off and facing 10 months without football.

Rondon first alerted the referee to the issue, was then in tears as his opponent received treatment and then put out a statement to wish him luck after the match. Now, according to the Daily Mail, Rondon is to visit McCarthy in hospital.

McCarthy went straight to hospital after the match on Saturday night for treatment before being moved to another hospital on Sunday night where he will undergo surgery.

Teammate Seamus Coleman broke his leg last year in a match for Ireland, against Wales, and was seen to leave his seat at Goodison Park as soon as the incident took place and he's already been to visit his friend.

Salomon Rondon Sends Message To James McCarthy After Accidental Leg Break

All of the footballing world will be feeling for James McCarthy tonight, none more so than Salomon Rondon. The West Brom striker has sent the Everton midfielder a classy message after the incident that left the Irishman with a double leg break.

The 1-1 scoreline between Everton and West Brom on Saturday afternoon was incidental in the end after James McCarthy had to be stretchered off the pitch following a double leg break.

27 year old McCarthy went to challenge West Brom's Rondon as the striker pulled his leg back to shoot and he ended up kicking the midfielders leg instead leading to a horrific injury.

There was no fault on the Venezuelan who was distraught and seen in tears after the accident and had to be consoled by James McClean and Alan Pardew.

After the match West Brom and Rondon posted a classy statement about the incident, saying:

"I am absolutely devastated after such an unfortunate incident. I feel really sorry for James.

"Rivalries are forgotten about when a colleague suffers such an unlucky injury. Even if the move had resulted in a goal, I would have preferred not to score if it meant an opponent avoided suffering such a terrible injury.

"I wish James a speedy recovery and hope to see him back playing again soon."

The club added, "Everyone at West Bromwich Albion wishes James a full and speedy return to full fitness."

Before the match Everton and West Brom, as with the rest of the Premier League, had paid tribute to Baggies legend Cyrille Regis who sadly passed away earlier in the week.

All players wore black armbands and had a minutes applause before kick off.
