In one of the more shocking transfer stories of the summer, Sky Sports News are reporting that Manchester City are interested in former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

Evans joined United as a nine-year-old and remained at Old Trafford until 2015, when he was sold to West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The Northern Ireland international often divided opinions as United player, with Red Devils fans being split on whether he was good enough to command a regular place in the first team. Nonetheless, Evans still made 198 appearances for the Old Trafford club, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup.

The 29-year-old centre half, who has been capped 61 times by Northern Ireland, has now apparently emerged as a transfer target for Pep Guardiola, who is looking to bolster his defence even further, following the summer arrivals of Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy.

The response to the news has been.......... mixed:

I think I speak for every football fan when I say that Jonny Evans joining Manchester City, having spent so much of his career on the red side of Manchester, would SURELY be the most shocking sporting betrayal since Hulk Hogan joined the NWO, turning his back on WCW in the process. SURELY!?
