A suspect has been arrested in connection with the attack on Borussia Dortmund's team bus ahead of last night's postponed Champions League quarter-final clash with Monaco.

Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol tweeted the news, saying that the two suspects in the attack are believed to be from an 'Islamist scene', but only one has been arrested, so far.

Solhekol had earlier tweeted about the investigation being conducted as an attempted murder case and that German Police were probing 'Islamist links'.

Bild's Matthias Marburg has also broken more details of the attack, reporting that the bomb that hit the bus, shattering glass which injured BVB defender's Marc Bartra's hand, was filled with nails that ended up in several headrests of seats on the coach.

German Police have confirmed one suspect has been arrested, with a spokesperson for the Bundeskriminalamt revealing some rather harrowing details of how much worse the attack could have been.

"These explosives contained metal shards - we can be happy that nothing worse happened.

"One of the metal shards in the explosive remained lodged in a seat headrest. It could have been worse.

"Two suspects are currently the subject of investigations. One person has been arrested.

"We are treating this incident as a terrorist attack. An Islamic background is possible."

A letter retrieved near the scene of the crime claimed responsibility for the bombing, citing Islamist links and mentioning the previous attack on German soil, when a Christmas market in Berlin was targeted, last year. It is currently being analysed by authorities.

The quarter-final tie will be played this evening, with a kick off time of 5.45pm.

We'll have more on this situation as news continues to break.
