Punter Misses Out On €249,553.58 Bet After Atletico Madrid's Champions League Defeat Against RB Leipzig

Heartbreaking stuff, this.

Can we just spare a thought for this unlucky punter, who missed out on almost €250k last night after Atletico Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League by RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga side opened the scoring five minutes after the restart thanks to one of European football's most talked about young talents (and Football Manager legend), Dani Olmo.

Diego Simeone's side managed to pull a goal back through Joao Felix in the 71st minute, but American midfielder Tyler Adams bagged an emphatic 88th minute winner, sending Julian Nagelsmann's side through to the semi-final stages for the first time in their history.

It was a momentous occasion for many, especially considering Leipzig - who only played their first season in the Bundesliga in 2016/17 - are just one step away from the final as they prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

But it was a far from ideal evening for this unlucky punter, who was sweating on Atletico beating Leipzig to complete his 13-fold accumulator.

Twitter user Alex shared the picture of 'that' betting slip with the caption: "Moment of silence for the lad let down by Atletico Madrid for €249,553.58. Sickening."

This isn't the first heartbreaking bet to emerge this week. A punter missed out on a $230k, 14-fold accumulator after Paris Saint-Germain came back from the dead to beat Atalanta 2-1 in the Champions League Round of 16.

It looked as if the Ligue 1 champions had blown it in the first half, going 1-0 down to the competition outsiders when Mario Pašalić curled the ball past Keylor Navas.

But somehow, Marquinhos was able to tap in an equaliser in the 90th minute before Stoke City legend Eric Choupo-Moting finished the game off in the 93rd minute to make it 2-1, meaning that this potentially life-changing bet was over.

These two slips in the space of a week have to be some of the most heartbreaking bets we've come across in a long, long time.
