Newcastle United are eyeing at least four 'elite players' who will be able to immediately challenge for a first-team place, according to stunning reports.

The Magpies sit in fourth spot in the table as they look to qualify for the Champions League next season.

So far, they have had a stellar campaign with Eddie Howe working wonders after bringing in the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Kieran Tripper, among others, following their Saudi-backed takeover.

That's according to The Telegraph, who claim the club will be plotting moves for players from aboard and those with proven Premier League pedigree.

They are primed for a busy summer transfer window with new sponsorship deals being worked on as well as the potential of European football.

With that being said, Newcastle are thought to be keeping tabs Premier League stars Moises Caicedo, James Maddison, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice, Conor Gallagher, Kaoru Mitoma, Jarrod Bowen, Ivan Toney, not to mention Kieran Tierney, Scott McTominay and Harvey Barnes.

They also have 'firm' interest in some of the best players in Europe, including Gabri Veiga, Moussa Diaby, Marcus Thuram as well as Napoli duo Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The report states: "But the calibre of players being studied is far higher than it was 12 months ago to reflect the fact that Newcastle’s squad is already stronger and has proven it can compete for European places."

Naturally, Howe will have to trim his squad in order to make new signings, but it is understood that Guimaraes, Isak and Sven Botman will not be sold this year.

Newcastle, who lost 3-0 to Aston Villa last weekend, resume their league campaign against fifth-placed Tottenham in a crunch meeting at St. James' Park.
