Mason Greenwood has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman.

The Manchester United forward was taken into custody for questioning on Sunday after a woman alleged that she had been assaulted in a number of pictures, a video and an audio recording posted to Instagram.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Greenwood had been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

As per Mike Keegan from the Daily Mail, Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed the 20-year-old has now been released on bail pending further investigation.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Manchester United have already confirmed Greenwood will not play or train for the club, saying: "Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind. As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice."

The player's merchandise has been removed from the official United website, while the sportswear giant and Greenwood's sponsor, Nike, have suspended their relationship with him in response.

He has also been removed from FIFA 22, gaming giant EA Sports have confirmed.

Some sick FIFA players had price-fixed Greenwood's Ultimate Team card, with its price increasing by 300% following the allegations.

Bradford-born Greenwood made his United debut in 2019 after coming through the club's youth academy.

He has made 129 appearances for United, scoring 35 times.

Greenwood made his England debut against Iceland in September 2020, coming on as a substitute in the UEFA Nations League fixture.
