Map of Manchester and whether each part supports United or City proves what 'colour' the city is

A map of Manchester and which regions hail more supporters of Manchester United or Manchester City has been revealed.

A map showing the different parts of Manchester and whether or not those areas support Manchester United or Manchester City has emerged.

As with any same-city Derby, there is often debate amongst the clubs' fanbases as to whether Manchester is red for United or blue for City.

Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium are less than four miles apart from each other with the former based in the west of the city and the latter in the east, but which club is actually best supported within the city?

Ahead of a historic FA Cup final in which both clubs will meet at Wembley for the first time in the final of the oldest cup competition in football on Saturday, supporters were asked by the Manchester Evening News which part of Greater Manchester they live in so a map of where supporters reside from could be created.

Generally speaking, Salford and other western regions of the city has always been known to be United-strong whilst Stockport and the east and north areas hail more City fans. However, the full results from the map are fascinating.

Nearly 2,000 responses were recorded with it being found that City enjoy the strongest support in places such as East Manchester, Middleton and Denton as well as Wilmslow, Cheadle and Altrincham.

On the other hand, United have strong contingents in Salford, Stretford and Swinton but also had the largest following in the city centre. Other United-dominated areas include Failsworth, Chadderton, Marple and Bramhall.

Both clubs already have one trophy to their names this season with Pep Guardiola's City winning their third consecutive Premier League title whilst Erik ten Hag's Manchester United lifted the League Cup back in February.

There will be particular attention on the Blues who are still battling to secure the treble with their Champions League final against Inter Milan scheduled for next Saturday.

As for United, winning two trophies and securing Champions League football will prove to be an excellent maiden season in England for ten Hag who arrived at Old Trafford last summer.
