Erik ten Hag's mind might be made up on one Man Utd player after FA Cup semi-final performance

Erik ten Hag's mind might be made up on one Man Utd player after FA Cup semi-final performance

One big transfer decision for Ten Hag may have gotten easier.

The performance of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof against Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final could have sealed a key Erik ten Hag transfer decision ahead of this summer.

The Sweden international has been handed an opportunity in central defence following injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

He started alongside Harry Maguire in Thursday's devastating 3-0 defeat at Sevilla, which knocked Ten Hag's side out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

But while Maguire was dropped to the bench for the FA Cup last four clash at Wembley against Brighton, Lindelof retained his place.

He was one of United's key performers over the 90 minutes plus added time, helping his side to keep a clean sheet.

And he kept his composure from the spot during the penalty shootout, calmly placing his effort into the corner to seal a first FA Cup final appearance for United since 2016.

It is Sunday's performance that could see him stay at the club beyond this summer - ahead of Maguire.

Lindelof to stay at Man Utd?

A report from The Guardian's Jamie Jackson, published on Friday, claimed that the futures of at least 15 United players would come under threat this summer.

But while he claimed that out-of-contract pair Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are definitely leaving the club, no decisions have yet been taken on which other players will depart Old Trafford.

It was also reported that Lindelof and Maguire could leave the club, but that Ten Hag would not sanction the departures of both due to the difficulties in recruiting two centre-backs that could improve the squad. United are exploring a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but he would cost upwards of £100 million.

Therefore, Lindelof's performance at Wembley could have pushed him ahead of club captain Maguire in the pecking order - and perhaps have pushed the England captain closer to the exit door.

The Swede has previously stated he will consider his future this summer due to a lack of first team opportunities, however, and he could still decide to leave once Varane and Martinez return to full fitness.
