Man Utd planning huge squad overhaul after Liverpool humiliation with six players put up for sale

Man Utd planning huge squad overhaul after Liverpool humiliation with six players put up for sale

Erik ten Hag isn't messing around.

Manchester United could sell six players following their humiliating defeat to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Red Devils were on the receiving end of a 7-0 battering at Anfield, thrusting certain players' futures into the spotlight.

Whilst plenty of fans will label Sunday's defeat a blip, United will be eyeing the summer transfer window as an opportunity to invest more heavily in the squad.

To do so, the club may be required to offload several players in order to free up their transfer budget.

Six players could leave Man Utd

Harry Maguire has been one of several rumoured with an exit, with the club open to selling the England international to help fund reinvestment, according to 90min.

The United skipper has had to play second fiddle to Raphael Varane and Lissandro Martinez this season, having slipped down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions this term, but only has five starts in the Premier League.

His last start came during United's 3-1 win over West Ham in the FA Cup where he played as a right-sided centre back.

Ten Hag praised his performance after the match, suggesting the 30-year-old could still play a part in the Dutchman's plans.

"He had a good performance," Ten Hag said after the game (quotes via Metro). "He took initiative in and out of possession, and so he was dominating in defence but in offence he had some really good moments.

"He had good passes, good engagement with opponents and outplaying them. He played a good game."

90min also report that Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly, Alex Telles and Dean Henderson could be shown the back door.

Meanwhile, Anthony Elanga may also be allowed to leave at the end of the season, though it is as yet clear whether United would prefer a loan or permanent sale.
