Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly had to 'banish' five players from the dressing room at the club's training centre at Carrington last year - with three of those players still at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag completed a number of signings over that summer, with Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen all joining the club.

There were also a number of outgoings, with long-serving midfielders Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic among those to depart on free transfers.

But United still needed to reduce numbers at their training ground. That is because, as per The Sun, the AON Training Centre only has room for 24 first-team players.

The same source claims that Ten Hag, therefore, had to remove five players from the first-team setup, and move them across to the U23s. They included defenders Phil Jones, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe, while youngsters Shola Shoretire and Teden Mengi were also removed.

Where are Ten Hag's 'banished players' now?

Both Shoretire and Tuanzebe secured loan moves away from the club, with Shoretire impressing with Bolton in League One.

Tuanzebe, meanwhile, joined Championship side Stoke in January, and has played three games in the Potters' current five game unbeaten run.

Shoretire has now returned to United after his loan-spell while Tuanzebe is without a club after being released by the club.

Williams and Mengi, meanwhile, remain at the club. Williams featured for United in pre-season but his future at Old Trafford remains in doubt

Mengi, meanwhile, has played a number of games for United's reserve side, and has featured in the Papa John's Trophy.

Jones was absent throughout the previous campaign and having not been named in the club's Premier League or Champions League squad, was released .

The former Blackburn defender was out of contract at the end of the season and after only a few appearances in the last few years was always set to leave the club regardless of whether ten Hag was in charge or not.

Shoretire and Mengi will likely continue their development at Old Trafford or go out on loan with the latter linked with a loan to French side Amiens.
