Fabrizio Romano reveals hidden details of Man Utd's Mason Mount deal with Chelsea including 'trophy' clause

Mount is on the verge of joining the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the hidden details of Mason Mount's new deal at Manchester United, including a unique 'trophy' clause.

Mount has been at the centre of a drawn-out transfer saga after failing to agree fresh terms with Chelsea over a new contract.

After initially struggling to agree on a fee for the England midfielder, the two Premier League clubs eventually agreed on a £60 million deal, including £5 million in potential add-ons.

Mount will now undergo a medical at Carrington on Monday, according to the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law.

The 24-year-old is set for a huge pay increase at Old Trafford, with reports claiming he could earn as much as £300,000 a week included bonuses - a stark contrast from his reported £80,000-per-week contract at Stamford Bridge.

Transfer expert Romano has since provided some details about the deal, explaining why Erik ten Hag was so keen to sign the player.

Mount's contract details revealed

Romano praised United for getting a deal over the line for Mount, revealing that Mount was keen to work under the Red Devils boss.

Speaking on his Youtube channel on Friday, the Italian said: "Credit to Manchester United because they always wanted Mount.

"Man United never left the race for Mason Mount, they always wanted him. What Erik ten Hag really appreciated is that Mount really wanted Man United and was showing this desire to join and work under Erik ten Hag. This is why the coach and the board all together they decided to wait for Mason Mount until the end.

"Of course there were some tense moments when Chelsea rejected their £50 million bid. United were not happy at all, but Chelsea offered this possibility to meet face-to-face. These talks took place in the United States to help both parties reach an agreement.

"Chelsea wanted £65m, Man United offering £55, but then they decided to find common ground in £60m.

Explaining Mount's contract, Romano revealed that the £5m add-ons would only be paid if Mount won a trophy at United.

"The structure is £55m plus £5m in add-ons," he continued. "But these add-ons will only be activated if Man United win trophies during the duration of Mount's contract."
