Mason Mount set for awkward Man Utd reunion after 'angry' Lisandro Martinez incident

Mason Mount set for awkward Man Utd reunion after 'angry' Lisandro Martinez incident

They're set to come face-to-face.

Mason Mount could face an awkward reunion at Manchester United when he undergoes a medical at the club next week.

Chelsea midfielder Mount, 24, is set to sign a five-year deal with United, with the option of a further year.

United have agreed a deal worth £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons, for the England international.

Mount has opted to leave his boyhood club after turning down the offer of a new deal at Stamford Bridge, with the midfielder unhappy with the terms offered.

Mount is set for a huge pay increase at Old Trafford, with some reports claiming he could earn as much as £300,000 a week included bonuses – compared to his reported £80,000-per-week contract at Chelsea.

He is expected to undergo a medical at Carrington next week once he has returned from his summer holidays.

And he could be set for an awkward interaction with Lisandro Martinez, who is one of only two senior players to have already returned to United from their summer break, along with Dean Henderson.

Martinez, 25, is working his way back up to full fitness after undergoing surgery on a broken foot, which kept him out of the final months of last season.

Mount's angry incident with Martinez

The Argentine was involved in a tense incident with Mount during a Premier League match between Chelsea and United last term.

The pair clashed during the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in October.

After tussling for the ball, a foul was given against Mount – causing a break in play. Martinez then pushed Mount in the chest, prompting an angry reaction from the English midfielder.

He then squared up to Martinez before his international teammate Luke Shaw rushed in to separate the pair.

Mount could meet Martinez again next week when he arrives in Manchester to complete his medical.

United's non-international players are set to return to the club on Thursday, while the rest of squad are expected back the following week.

United face Leeds in their opening pre-season friendly in Oslo, Norway on July 12, with their first match of the new Premier League season coming against Wolves on August 14.
