Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has provided an update on his contract talks with the Premier League club.

The 32-year-old, who has made 517 appearances in almost 12 years at United, is out of contract at the end of the season.

United have the option to extend De Gea's current contract by 12 months but are yet to do so, despite recently triggering similar clauses in the contracts of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred.

United are in talks with De Gea over a new deal that would reduce his basic salary from around £300,000 a week.

Reports claim the club want the Spain international to sign a deal that pays him less each month but has lucrative performance-based incentives.

De Gea provides positive update on contract talks

De Gea is now free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs as he has entered the final six months of his contract.

But the Spaniard, who joined United from Atletico Madrid back in 2011, has suggested he will remain at Old Trafford next season.

"We're still talking," said De Gea after Saturday's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

"For sure it's going to end in a good way."

De Gea took to social media after the win over Palace to post a cryptic meme of Jose Mourinho's infamous 'If I speak' post-match interview.

But it is believed that rather than the meme be related to his contract talks, De Gea posted it in reference to Casemiro's controversial red card against Palace.

The Brazil international was sent off for the first time in his professional career after clashing with Palace midfielder Will Hughes during a melee between the two sets of players in the second half at Old Trafford.

Casemiro is now set to miss United's next three matches – back-to-back Premier League games against rivals Leeds United and a home match against Leicester City.
