The Englishman could play a key role in United's recruitment.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's prospective takeover of Manchester United could see one of football's most talented scouts instated into the club's hierarchy.

Ratcliffe is reportedly in pole position to buy United after the Daily Mail claimed that his company, INEOS, submitted a higher bid than the one offered by Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim.

Should Ratcliffe be successful, the British businessman already has plans in place of how the club's structure could look.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Mitchell could be handed a role at Manchester United having previously been considered for a position at Nice - who are also owned by INEOS.

The 41-year-old is currently football director at AS Monaco, but he is due to leave the Ligue 1 side at the end of the season, paving the way for a potential move to Old Trafford.

And Red Devils supporters have plenty of reason to be excited, with Mitchell boasting a distinguished track record at previous clubs.

Who has Mitchell signed?

Mitchell has extensive transfer experience after heading the recruitment for Southampton, Tottenham and RB Leipzig, before moving on to Monaco.

During his spell at Tottenham he was responsible for the acquisition of Dele Ali, Toby Alderweireld, Keiran Trippier and Son Heung-min.

While all four players had vastly different trajectories, at the peak of their powers, they formed a hugely exciting Tottenham team.

Son has gone on to score 102 goals for the north London side, winning the golden boot last season alongside Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. While Trippier captains Eddie Howe's Champions league-chasing Newcastle.

At Southampton, Mitchell also recruited Sadio Mane, who went on to win multiple accolades under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

But the list doesn't end there. Mitchell had great success at RB Leipzig, signing Christian Nknunku from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

The Frenchman later won the 2021-22 Bundesliga Player of the season award, sealing a £62 million move to Chelsea, as Leipzig pocketed over £50 million profit.

It may be difficult for Mitchell to hijack that particular deal, with Nknunku due to arrive at Stamford Bridge for next season.

However, the Englishman could have a hand in Manchester United's pursuit of Brazilian right-back Vanderson, with Erik ten Hag thought to be keen on the 21-year-old.

Mitchell signed Vanderson for Monaco last year, but the defender has since been heavily rumoured with a move to Old Trafford - and he could be Mitchell's first piece of business.
