Manchester United have scheduled 'decisive talks' with on-loan midfielder Marcel Sabitzer over a potential summer transfer, according to a report.

Sabitzer joined the club on a temporary basis from Bayern Munich in January, and the Austria international has impressed during his short spell to date at Old Trafford.

He has played an important role in a number of matches, not least in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Brentford, when he cushioned the ball down in the area for Marcus Rashford to fire in United's only goal.

Sabitzer also lifted the Carabao Cup in February, and could yet add more silverware before the end of the campaign with United still in the Europa League and FA Cup.

Now, a potentially significant decision over his long-term future could be made soon.

Man Utd 'schedule talks over Sabitzer future'

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, United will hold 'decisive talks' with Sabitzer over a potential transfer next week.

Last month, Bild's Christian Falk claimed that Bayern would ask for €20 million to allow the 30-year-old to leave the Allianz Arena, although the German giants have since replaced manager Julian Nagelsmann with ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

However, Plettenberg claims that is unlikely to affect Sabitzer's position at Bayern.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "[Sabitzer] feels comfortable at MUFC and can imagine to join Man Utd on permanent deal. But nothing decided.

"Decisive talks will follow next week. Return to Munich unlikely at this stage. Been told that many clubs of the Premier League inquired about him."

In February, after completing his signing, Ten Hag praised Sabitzer for his quality, and expected him to go on to play a big role at Old Trafford.

He explained (quotes via Daily Mail): "To bring a quality player in on deadline day, that's difficult! Then we got this opportunity [to sign Sabitzer]. I know the player already a long time from Salzburg and especially from Leipzig, he performed fantastic, so I expect that he will do the same here.

"I think he has a great attitude, he is in the right age and I'm sure this opportunity will motivate him strongly and he will perform for us."
