Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign highly-rated young defender Harry Amass from Watford, it has been reported.

The Red Devils have already added to their academy ranks this year, agreeing a deal to sign Gabriele Biancheri from Cardiff in January.

United announced the signing of the 16-year-old Welsh striker on a four-year deal in March, having not been bound to the same transfer window regulations due to the player being under 18.

And it has now been claimed that they will shell out a compensation fee to sign another young talent.

Man Utd 'agree deal to sign defender'

According to Manchester Evening News, United have agreed a deal to sign Amass, who is dubbed one of the 'brightest young talents in football'.

It is claimed that the defender has signed an early scholarship with the club, which means United will have to pay compensation under Premier League regulations.

Furthermore, Watford are said to have offered Amass a two-year professional contract, to become active when he turns 17, but a deal has been reached between the player and United instead ahead of the move being officially confirmed.

Amass has represented England at youth level, and won a youth tournament with the U16 side in March when the young squad travelled to Cyprus.

The left-back told Watford's official website: "It was a great experience playing with the best players in the country, and it improves my game. It's a great challenge.

"We played Denmark in the final game, and a win for either team would be enough to win the trophy so it felt like a final, and we won 1-0!

"I feel really proud to represent my country. It's what I've wanted to do since I was a kid. It's amazing going out there; playing for your country and making your family proud is a good feeling."

At club level, Amass has represented the Hornets in the FA Youth Cup and was an unused substitute for the senior side's FA Cup third round defeat to Reading in January.
