Man Utd confirm another January departure as defender seals exit

Manchester United defender Di'Shon Bernard has joined Portsmouth on loan until the end of the season, the club has been confirmed.

Manchester United defender Di'Shon Bernard has joined Portsmouth on loan until the end of the season, the club has been confirmed.

All focus at the Red Devils, in terms of incomings, is sealing a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, with the club having approached the Bundesliga giants earlier today.

United have acted following an ankle injury suffered by Christian Eriksen, having confirmed that the Dane will miss around three months of action.

On the outgoings front, the club have allowed several younger players to depart on temporary deals. Midfielder Charlie Savage joined Forest Green last week, following on from forward Shola Shoretire's move to Bristol Rovers.

And now Bernard will join both players in League One, as confirmed by the club.

He featured in United's mid-World Cup training camp in Spain. Bernard spent last season on loan at Championship side Hull, and made his only competitive appearance for the Red Devils in the 2019/20 Europa League group stage.

Man Utd's Bernard joins Portsmouth

The 22-year-old has moved to Fratton Park until the end of the season, and will hope to help Pompey to reach the League One play-offs. They are currently six points behind sixth-placed Barnsley, having played one game more.

Portsmouth sacked Danny Cowley as manager last month. They named former Oxford defender John Mousinho as his replacement, with the 36-year-old taking his first senior managerial job.

Speaking to Pompey's official website, Mousinho said: "Di'Shon is a fantastic young player with a great pedigree behind him.

"He also has first team experience from his previous loan spells, including in the Championship, so we know what he can do. It was someone we didn't think we were going to be able to bring him in, so we're really pleased to have him here.

"He's very quick and athletic, and likes to play on the front foot. He's also someone who is comfortable on the ball and composed."
