Manchester United have been told the asking price for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.

Manchester United have been told the asking price for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker, having parted ways with five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo by mutual consent.

The Portugal international’s acrimonious exit came after the 37-year-old gave a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised Man Utd’s owners and stressed that he did not respect manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo’s departure and Anthony Martial’s dire injury record this term have meant Man Utd are in desperate need of a new striker.

They have been linked with a range of forwards across Europe, including Netherlands star Cody Gakpo and Portugal sensation Felix.

And now the Old Trafford club have been told the asking price to secure the latter from Atletico.

Man Utd told Felix’s asking price

Atletico are reportedly keen to cash in on Felix in January and have significantly lowered his asking price to ensure a sale materialises, according to Spanish publication AS.

Man Utd are one of three major clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old, who cost Atletico €126million (£108m) when he moved from Benfica to the Spanish capital in 2019.

But Atletico now want to part ways with Felix in January, with the relationship between the forward and manager Diego Simeone described as “broken”.

The publication claims Atletico are prepared to cut their losses and have lowered their asking price for Felix to €100million (£86million).

Indeed, such a fee would contain a significant amount of bonuses and performance-related add-ons.

Man Utd allegedly pursued a deal for Felix in the summer but baulked at Atletico’s asking price. A deal in the region of £86m would be more palatable for ten Hag’s side.

Indeed, such a fee would be a bargain if Felix turns out to be as good as he believes he is.

When asked by TNT Sports Brasil last year whether he has what it takes to compete with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland as the world’s best player, Felix said: “I can be.

“I’ve not yet reached my best level. In the last few seasons, I’ve had several injuries and I’ve not enjoyed an injury-free season. But when that happens I think I can fight to be in that position.”

Paris Saint-Germain and German giants Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in Felix.
