Cameroon have approached Anthony Elanga to switch international allegiance to them, reports say.

After making his Manchester United debut against Leicester City and opening his account for the club against Wolves a few days later last year, Elanga has become a useful member of the first-team squad.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick in particular has taken a liking to the young winger and given him plenty of first-team opportunities since he replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Elanga was born in Sweden and moved to England at the age of 12 to join United - therefore making him eligible to play for the Three Lions internationally.

But according to Footazimuts, Cameroon are making moves to try and convince him to play for them.

Elanga's father Joseph, a left-back, represented the central African country 17 times and played at the 1998 World Cup.

Cameroon are set to pursue Anthony Elanga for their national team. Elanga is eligible to play for Sweden, Cameroon or England at international level. He has represented Sweden at U-17, U-19 & U-21 levels.

He is said to be keen on his son following in his footsteps and Cameroon boss Toni Conceição had had talks with both the 19-year-old and his representatives.

But it's claimed Elanga's mother and agent are not completely sold on him playing for Cameroon, resulting in "complicated" negotiations.

Elanga has played for birth country Sweden at Under 17's, Under 19's and Under 21's level, making his debut with the latter age group last year.

He was poised to make his senior bow last month after being called up for games against Finland by manager Janne Andersson.

United did not give permission for Elanga to play in the January tour matches but both fixtures ended up being postponed anyway.

Stefan Pettersson, Sweden's team manager, says there are no concerns about Elanga playing international football elsewhere.

"He (Anthony) has been in our business for a long time with the youth teams and he was asked for the January," he said, as per Sport Witness.

“Of course, we’re in control. He knows very well that he is high on the list of Swedish football because he has been with it for so long.”
