"I wish" - Gary Neville claims Man United should have brought in "exceptional" Liverpool star

Gary Neville wishes Jurgen Klopp had gone to Man United instead of Liverpool

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has spoken out on his admiration for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of the fixture between the two clubs.

Klopp joined Liverpool in 2016 and has turned the Reds from what was a mediocre side to one of Europe’s biggest powerhouses.

In his time at the club he has guided them to a Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Club World Cup.

During the same period, Manchester United have gone through five managers, and only won two trophies.

Speaking to UMM Youtube channel, Neville had this to say regarding the German coach:

“I can’t go back in time but I wish they had appointed Jurgen Klopp.”

“He’s been supported at Liverpool by a brilliant backroom team that have got the players in for him and every manager at United has struggled, but he’s an exceptional manager, of course you wish we would have appointed him.”

United have once again struggled to make a strong start to the season and currently sit bottom of the league, having lost both games played.

The air around the club has been sour for some time now and that hasn't been helped by the 4-0 thrashing they received from Brentford.

The Red Devils face Liverpool today where they’ll be hoping to bag their first three points of the season, but it won’t be an easy task going up against the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have, however, dropped their usual high standards, having drawn both of their first league games to Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The Reds have already been troubled with injury problems and Joe Gomez looks set to start his first game of the season in the absence of Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

Klopp will also be without big money signing Darwin Nunez, who serves the first of his three game suspension, following his heabutt on Crystal Palace defender, Joachim Andersen.
