Luke Shaw’s goal vs Bournemouth reminded Man United fans of Dimitar Berbatov under Sir Alex Ferguson

Luke Shaw’s goal vs Bournemouth reminded Man United fans of Dimitar Berbatov under Sir Alex Ferguson

Luke Shaw was on the scoresheet on Tuesday as Manchester United beat Bournemouth

Luke Shaw’s goal against Bournemouth on Tuesday night has reminded Manchester United fans of a goal Dimitar Berbatov scored during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

United boss Erik ten Hag shocked many fans last week when he started Shaw at centre-back ahead of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

Against Bournemouth, Shaw was back in his preferred left-back role and he shone under the lights at Old Trafford as he finished off a fine team move to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute.

Now, the footage of Shaw's goal has been put side by side with a goal scored by former Red Devil Berbatov against Blackburn Rovers back in 2010.

United were under the guidance of legendary manager Ferguson at the time and were absolutely flying. For the goal, Berbatov started the move deep inside his own half, he then played an exquisite pass to Nani on the right before moving into the box and finishing off the fine move. That goal was Berbatov’s third of five he scored during the 7-1 thrashing.

There were similarities between Shaw’s and Berbatov’s goals as Shaw also started the move deep inside his own half, before finishing in a similar style on his right foot, just like Berbatov did all those years ago.

Shaw showed tremendous composure and perfect technique to put the ball out of Cherries goalkeeper Mark Travers’ reach.

Fans were quick to point out the similarities on social media.

One said: “Is it just me or did anyone else get Berbatov vibes off that Luke Shaw goal ”

Another commented: “Shaw did the Berbatov, on the same side of the Old Trafford pitch too”

A third fan added: “Shaw’s goal looking like Berbatov’s goal sometime back”

During his post-match interview, Shaw spoke about his recent position change.

He said: “It is always good to be able to try out new positions and I really enjoyed it. I will play wherever and whenever the team needs me.

“Back to left-back tonight and pleased to get on the scoresheet.”

United are back in action on Friday night as they take on Everton in the FA Cup.
