Manchester City fans have been criticised for their reaction to the opening goal against Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final.

Pep Guardiola's side were able to cruise to an easy 3-0 win against The Blades at Wembley Stadium on Saturday after a quick-fire hat trick from Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez stunned the Championship side.

For the majority of the first half, it looked as if a resilient Sheffield defence was ready to frustrate the Premier League giants, as they remained solid for the first 43-minutes of action. Limiting the reigning top flight champions to very few chances throughout the first half.

However, this changed fairly quickly after Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva was brought down by Daniel Jebbison in the area, leaving referee Stuart Atwell with no choice other than to award a penalty to City.

Mahrez dispatched the spot kick with ease but it was the reaction that followed that sparked rivals fans into criticising the City fanbase, as their muted celebrations to taking the lead at Wembley swept across social media.

Here are just a few of the reactions...

@Woody44z: Wild.

@Liam_EJ: Embarrassing.

@TaylorMod: Seen more celebrations at a night of bingo.

@Stxylo: That looks exciting.

@nickvann1987: Calm down don't get too excited.

Mahrez would go on to score two more goals shortly after to secure a place in the FA Cup final for his side. Although, the dull celebrations and the fact neither side managed to sell out their allocation for the fixture will undoubtedly absorb some of the headlines following their victory.

In the final, City will either face rivals Manchester United or Brighton and Hove Albion.
