Michael Owen has recently suggested that Liverpool, who are currently fighting for the signature of Kalvin Phillips, should instead focus on securing either Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice.

At present, Liverpool and Manchester City are both set to fight against each other for Phillips’s services, with the composed Leeds and England international midfielder in high demand.

However, The Mirror has reported that former Liverpool star Owen has instead advised Klopp to fight for Bellingham and Rice. Midfielders he believes are ‘in a league of their own,’.

Bellingham has previously been linked to Liverpool, with Klopp clearly an admirer of the 18 year-old sensation. The midfielder has been compared to Steven Gerrard by many, with Owen going as far to say that he has the ability to become ‘one of the very best’ players that England have ever developed.

Naby Keita’s potential departure will make it a necessity for Liverpool to sign a replacement midfielder in this summer’s transfer window. Rice may just be that replacement.

The 23 year-old is currently one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League, with him already racking up 30 appearances for England. Not only would Rice replace Keita, but he would also become the long-term successor to Jordan Henderson. Who at 31 has only a few seasons left.

Whoever Liverpool do end up signing out of Phillips, Rice and Bellingham, the Reds would surely be gaining a great player. All 3 players are 25 and under, and all helped to guide England to a Euro final.
