Major blow for Liverpool as Romano confirms €50m star won't be joining the club

Major blow for Liverpool as Romano confirms €50m star won't be joining the club

This will hurt Jurgen Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp has been dealt a huge blow following the news that Liverpool target Ismael Bennacer is set to sign a new contract at AC Milan.

The Reds appear to be in urgent need of midfielders, with frequent injuries to Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson severely limiting Klopp's options.

Meanwhile, Fabinho is yet to reach the heights of last season, frequently coming under criticism for below par performances.

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes Thiago Alcantara to be the problem, referring to Liverpool as "flawed" when he is in the side.

The club's frustrating 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers will only add fuel to the fire as Liverpool reach desperation in their pursuit of Champions League football.

Bennacer snubs Liverpool

Klopp is thought to be a huge fan of Algerian international Bennacer, with the club thought to be close to a deal last month.

However, it has been reported that the 25-year-old is set to extend his contract in Serie A, with journalist Fabrizio Romano stating that the player will sign within the next 48 hours.

The new deal new is expected to last until 2027, with a release clause of roughly £44million. However, this will only be valid in 2024, according to Romano.

Liverpool were said have been keen to sign Bennacer last summer, but instead opted for Artur Mello on loan. The 26-year-old has only featured once since his arrival, coming on as a substitute during Liverpool's 4-1defeat to Napoli. Klopp may rue his decision to not snap up the Milan star sooner.

Liverpool fans remain hopeful of luring World Cup star Jude Bellingham to Anfield. However, their increasing risk of missing out on Champions League qualification may diminish their chances entirely.

The club face Brighton next in the Premier League, with three points a must if they are to try and turn their season around.
