Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka could leave Aston Villa this summer and both Liverpool and Arsenal have been tracking the player’s situation.

Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has warned fans to “keep an eye on” Chukwuemeka as “many clubs are following him.”

Arsenal are reportedly huge fans of the player, and view him as a transfer alternative to Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

Liverpool’s interest on the other hand is said to be more tentative, but it’d be unsurprising if the Reds were to make a move for the 18-year-old.

Signing Chukwuemeka, whose contract expires next summer, could save Liverpool a lot of money long-term.

The young Englishman made 12 appearances for Villa last term in the Premier League. Along the way, he started 2 games and managed to grab his first Premier League assist.

He is yet to set the Premier League alight, but Steven Gerrard is known to be a big fan of the youngster. He is a man who knows a thing or two about playing midfield in the Premier League.

With a year left on his Villa deal, the Midlands club won’t be demanding an extortionate fee from a potential suitor, and this is why this deal could suit Liverpool.

According to reports, The Reds have postponed their hunt for a new midfielder, and will instead go after one next summer.

The man most heavily linked with the Anfield club has been Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

Of course, he’d cost Liverpool a quite substantial amount of resource.

Chukwuemeka isn’t anywhere near Bellingham’s level at this moment in time, but he could be in the future.

If Liverpool sign him this summer and let him develop surrounded by the know-how of stars like Thiago, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho, they could have a hell of a player on their hands in a few years’ time.

Liverpool’s midfield will need revamping at some point with Klopp’s first-choice engine room players ageing.

Signing a player like Chukwuemeka could be the first step in that process.
