Arsenal 'On Course' To Sign Youri Tielemans But Fear Spurs Could Hijack Transfer

Arsenal are confident and on course to complete the signing of Tielemans.

Arsenal remain confident of signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer, despite fears of a Tottenham Hotspur approach to hijack the move.

The Gunners had been eyeing a move for the Belgium international throughout their preparations for the new season before being met by rivalling interest from their neighbours, Spurs, who pipped Mikel Arteta’s men to Champions League football on the last day of the 2021/22 season.

Arsenal are still confident of landing the playmaker, however, with CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs reporting on a deal set to be struck between Leicester and the North Londoners before the end of June.

With just a year left on his current deal with the Foxes, Tielemans is widely-expected to be on his way out of the King Power Stadium in one of the last opportunities for Leicester to cash in on their coveted midfielder.

Quizzed in the past about a potential move away, Tielemans confirms: “That is not out of the question.

“You have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Uncertainty around the 25-year-old’s contract has reportedly alerted the interest of other clubs, such as Spurs, keen to reel Tielemans in with Champions League football and spoil Arsenal’s plans.

Spurs appear to have switched their attentions to Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma, however, after agreeing terms with the Seagulls and handing Arsenal a boost in the race for Tielemans, as the rumour hones in on a conclusion.
