Liverpool tracking Bundesliga wonderkid - it's not Jude Bellingham

Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing a young Bundesliga starlet next summer, and his name is not Jude Bellingham.

Jurgen Klopp's side are said to be tracking Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Musiala has hit the ground running for Bayern this season, establishing himself as a regular starter for the Bavarian club.

Last term, he made just 12 starts from 30 Bundesliga appearances, but this term he’s already started 6 games out of 7.

The youngster has also started 2 of Bayern’s 3 Champions League games this season, operating as an attacking midfielder for Julian Naglesmann’s side.

Not only has he established himself at club level, but also as a Germany international. He now features consistently under Hansi Flick for his national team.

Musiala will likely feel he has more to give at Bayern before moving to pastures new, and according to the report from Florian Plettenberg declaring Liverpool’s interest, Bayern are unwilling to sell.

However, it’d surprise few if Musiala was to make a move to England at some point during his career.

The 19-year-old grew up in London and was a member of the Chelsea academy before moving back to Germany to join Bayern as a teenager.

But for Liverpool, if they still have their sights set on signing Jude Bellingham from Dortmund next summer, they’d need to be prepared to spend some serious money in one transfer window to sign both Bundesliga stars.

Musiala’s current contract expires in June 2026, so there is no pressure on Bayern to sell their young midfielder.

As Dortmund likely will for Bellingham next summer, Bayern can also demand an astronomical fee for Musiala from interested parties.

And given this is his first season starting regularly for Bayern, moving on in the near future wouldn’t make sense for Musiala.

One suspects he’ll continue to ply his trade in Germany for a fair while yet.
