Liverpool could pay just £40m for Alexis Mac Allister as potential player-plus-cash deal emerges

Liverpool could pay just £40m for Alexis Mac Allister as potential player-plus-cash deal emerges

They could strike a cut-price deal.

Liverpool could sign Alexis Mac Allister on a cut-price fee as the option of a player-plus-cash deal emerges.

Mac Allister has had an unforgettable season for both club and country. In November the midfielder was central to the Argentina side that claimed their first World Cup crown since 1986, while he has been central to Brighton’s bid to earn European qualification.

Such performances have generated speculation that the 24-year-old could move on to pastures new this summer, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United having been linked.

Despite signing a new contract in October that secured him to Brighton until 2025, the midfielder is likely to be sold in the summer.

Liverpool are allegedly among the favourites to lure the Argentine away from the Seagulls. And Brighton’s interest in one Liverpool star suggests a player-plus-cash deal could be struck to suit all parties.

According to the Irish Independent, Brighton are interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

The south coast side are one of three clubs said to be chasing Kelleher, with Tottenham and Brentford also in the mix.

Kelleher has been Liverpool’s main backup option for the best part of three seasons, though impressed in the domestic cups.

However, the Republic of Ireland international is allegedly angling for a move away from Anfield this summer, in the hope of playing more regular football. And Liverpool could use Brighton’s interest in Kelleher to sign Mac Allister at a cut-price fee.

According to Football Insider Brighton would accept offers of £60million for the player.

Meanwhile, the Irish Independent claim Liverpool are ready to let Kelleher depart once a club matches their valuation of around £20million.

In turn, there is the prospect of a swap deal between the pair that could see Liverpool pay Brighton just £40million plus Kelleher to sign Mac Allister.
