17-Year-Old Talent Signs Deal With Liverpool

17-Year-Old Talent Signs Deal With Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Tommy Pilling signs a pro deal

Liverpool have enjoyed success on the contractural front this summer, handing new deals to a number of key assets.

Earlier this week the club revealed key forward Diogo Jota has put pen to paper with a new 5-year extension.

And last month the Reds confirmed new deals had been handed to both Mohammed Salah and Joe Gomez.

In addition to that trio, Liverpool have also been working hard to ensure they keep hold of a number of academy players.

The Merseyside club announced a few days ago that academy graduate Luke Chambers had signed an extension with the club after impressing during pre-season.

And now young midfielder Tommy Pilling has signed his first professional deal with the Reds.

For youngsters at Liverpool, there is a clear pathway into the first team set-up.

Opportunities will arise across the coming seasons as key first team members continue to age and it is anticipated that some Liverpool midfielders will receive their marching orders sooner rather than later.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract expires next summer, and a recent injury blow has not aided him in anyway as he bids to keep his hopes of securing a long-term future at Anfield alive.

The situation of Naby Keita paints a similar picture. He appeared close to signing a new deal a few weeks ago, but talks have seemingly stalled for the time being.

Then there’s Curtis Jones who at 21-years-old is still yet to prove that he’s truly good enough to play for Liverpool.

As for Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson, they are now both the wrong side of 30, and will need to accept that their starting births will be taken from them at some point.

Youngsters like Pilling will be hoping the unclear situation regarding the future of Liverpool’s midfield hands them opportunities to break into the first team set-up at Anfield.

Regardless of whether Pilling does eventually end up breaking into the first team, Liverpool will be delighted to have tied down another talented young player to a new contract.
