Liverpool May Have New Advantage Over Rivals Following Quiet Premier League Rule Change

Liverpool may have an advantage over Man City due to a new Premier League rule change.

The Premier League is set to introduce new rules to reduce time-wasting. The body has announced that there will be a multi-ball system on the touchlines for each fixture.

One match ball will be in play, a further will be with the fourth official and eight others will be placed around the pitch on cones.

The balls behind the goal will be located so they don't interfere with Hawk-Eye.

The move comes in response to ball assistants taking far too long to hand the ball back to players, delaying game time.

The change will enable teams to take throw-ins more quickly, which will come as music to Liverpool’s ears as they have recently announced the re-signing of their throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark.

Mega transfers, such as Liverpool's £85million signing of Darwin Nunez, will always make the headlines but the contract renewal of Gronnemark may be equally important.

Throughout Jurgen Klopp’s time on Merseyside, his side have had the most throw-ins of any in the league.

Gronnemark, who once held the Guinness World Record for the longest throw-in at 51.33m, unsurprisingly teaches the long throw-in, and also the fast throw-in to set-up counter-attacks.

Liverpool scored goals last season against Man City, Man United, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea via a throw last season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Last year’s title race showed us the importance of fine margins, which is why Gronnemark’s work could be so vital.
