Naby Keita is unhappy with his situation at Liverpool, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Guinea international is out of contract at the end of the season, and there haven’t been any murmurs of an extension as of yet.

Keita has only had five minutes of action so far this campaign, which came in the Community Shield, as he missed both Premier League matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace through illness.

Liverpool are currently without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Thiago Alcantara through injury, and with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson going through undulating levels of form, Keita’s performances in the coming weeks will be key in order to guide the Reds through this tough situation.

This is unlikely to affect the midfielder's contractual situation though, as Plettenberg wrote on Twitter.

“He is unhappy with his current situation in Liverpool. There were talks about a contract extension but they have stopped now."

"His departure is possible regardless of Thiago and Oxlade-Chamberlain. But early stage. Talks will take place.”

The 27-year-old has 117 appearances for the Merseyside club and has won just about everything he possibly could during his time at Anfield.

If Keita were to leave the club, it would exacerbate the lack of depth in the side's midfield, and would require an immediate reaction in the transfer market.
