Liverpool will wait until at least August until they decide whether to bring Marco Asensio to Anfield this summer.

Speaking to WettFreunde, Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed Liverpool admire Asensio, but are happy with the squad they already have at their disposal.

As such, Romano believes a move for Asensio is unlikely. In fact, he believes the idea of any further incomings at Anfield are unlikely this summer.

However, one thing Romano believes could sway Jürgen Klopp’s opinion is the performance of young players during pre-season and the early weeks of the new campaign.

He believes if the likes of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nuñez don’t hit the ground running at Liverpool, the Merseyside club could be tempted into making a move for Asensio.

That is of course dependent on whether Asensio remains on the market at that point. With his contract expiring next summer, Real Madrid are open to selling, but AC Milan could snap him up beforehand.

Liverpool fans won’t be too bemused by Romano’s claim that a move for Asensio is unlikely to materialise this summer.

There are already a plethora of forward options at Anfield and adding an injury prone Asensio to the squad would be something of a waste of resource.

If the money is there to be spent, Kopites would surely prefer to see their club spend big on a midfielder.

However, according to reports, the pursuit of a new midfielder has been postponed to next summer with Jude Bellingham being targeted.

One player who it wouldn’t appear will be joining Liverpool anytime soon though is Marco Asensio.

The rumours will persist, but a move will not materialise.
