Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique sent a message to Erik ten Hag during Manchester United’s 7-0 defeat to the Anfield club.

On Sunday Liverpool dealt United their worst competitive defeat since 1931.

January signing Cody Gakpo opened the scoring just before halftime, only for Liverpool to claim six further goals in the second-half.

It was the biggest win in the history of the fixture, passing Liverpool's 7-1 victory in the 1895-96 Second Division.

Liverpool are now an ominous presence in the race for the Champions League, just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

During the sensational Premier League clash, several former players came out to taunt and scrutinise United and praise Liverpool in equal measure.

After Mohamed Salah scored to put Liverpool 4-0 up in the 66th minute, Enrique took to Twitter to taunt Ten Hag for his pre-match comments.

Before kick off the United boss said: “I've been to Anfield, yeah, I'm looking forward to it – the ambience, the atmosphere. It will be great, it will be hostile against us, but we like that.

“So we have to play and to make it our game. Of course, we know the ambience will not be supporting us and you have to deal with that. But, as I said, our players, they like it. They like to play in such atmospheres.”

During the second half of the encounter, as things began to unravel for United, a jubilant Enrique posted a video in which he said: “Four. Ten Hag, four mate. And you said before the game your players could handle the pressure.

“Four, and there are still 25 minutes left. Okay! Come on.”

The Spaniard, who played for Liverpool between 2011 and 2016, subsequently Tweeted: “United just don't like Anfield.
