Jurgen Klopp Stormed Out Of Post-Match Interview After Accused Of Being 'Very Angry' At Full-Time

Jurgen Klopp Stormed Out Of Post-Match Interview After Accused Of Being 'Very Angry' At Full-Time

Jurgen Klopp dismissed speculation that he was angry at Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone for not shaking his hand after Liverpool's win.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp lost his cool with an interviewer and stormed out of a post-match interview after he was asked why he was “angry” at the full-time whistle.

Klopp’s men secured three points against Atletico Madrid in a thrilling 3-2 win at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita fired Liverpool into a 2-0 lead in the opening 15 minutes, but an Antoine Griezmann brace pulled Atletico back into the contest before half-time.

However, Griezmann was sent off in the 52nd minute for a dangerous challenge on Roberto Firmino, with Salah coolly beating Jan Oblak from the spot-kick in the 78th minute.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone wasted no time in making a swift exit from the dugout and ran straight down the tunnel at the full-time whistle.

Klopp appeared upset at Simeone for not shaking his hand after Liverpool’s 3-2 win on the night.

However, the 54-year-old German clashed with an interviewer in a heated exchange during a post-match interview.

The interviewer suggested that Klopp was “very angry” at the end of the match, but the Liverpool boss admitted that he understood why an “emotional” Simeone made an immediate exit.

Posted below is the exchange between the interviewer and Klopp (H/T to Nine's Wide World of Sports for the transcription).

Interviewer: “And the last one. We have seen you very angry at the end of the game, I don't know what was the reason because I suppose you have to be very happy, because of the result?”

Klopp: “Why was I angry?”

Interviewer: “I don't know, because you want to shake the hand?”

Klopp: “Come on, I'm not such an idiot that you… a little bit of a question here -- I wasn't angry at all.”

Interviewer: “Ah! OK.”

Klopp: “I wasn't angry. Have a look. If you want to make a story of that, I can imagine. I want to shake his hand, he doesn't want it. In that moment I can understand that he was running inside. He's emotional, I'm emotional and you are not a nice person because you want to make a story of that.”

Interviewer: “No. I was trying to…”

Klopp: “You said I was angry. When was I angry? I am now angry because of your question. Come on.”

Liverpool are top of Group B in the Champions League and are five points clear of second-place Atletico and third-place Porto.
