Thomas Lemar Accused Of Being Offside For Atletico Madrid's First Goal Vs Liverpool

Liverpool fans claimed Thomas Lemar was offside and obstructing Joel Matip, as Atletico Madrid got back into the Champions League group game between the pair.

The Premier League side made a rapid start to their biggest game of the group stages, as they faced Atleti at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, who had his strike given to James Milner momentarily, and Naby Keita gave Jurgen Klopp's side what looked like a commanding lead after just 13 minutes.

However, Griezmann gave Atleti a way back into the match in the 20th minute, getting on the end of Koke's strike from the edge of the box.

There was a long VAR check after the goal went in but it was still given, however Liverpool fans believed that Lemar was in the way of Matip and obstructed him by jumping in his way.

To make matters worse for the Reds, they went in at half time level, after Griezmann got his second of the game to make it 2-2.

Whilst there were questions about the refereeing for the first one, the questions were only about Liverpool's defending, as Virgil van Dijk missed Griezmann's run.

Things could have got worse for the Reds before the end of the brilliant opening 45 minutes, as the hosts finished the half on top.

For the neutrals it was certainly an excellent start to the game.
