Liverpool fans claimed Thomas Lemar was offside and obstructing Joel Matip, as Atletico Madrid got back into the Champions League group game between the pair.
The Premier League side made a rapid start to their biggest game of the group stages, as they faced Atleti at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Goals from Mohamed Salah, who had his strike given to James Milner momentarily, and Naby Keita gave Jurgen Klopp's side what looked like a commanding lead after just 13 minutes.
However, Griezmann gave Atleti a way back into the match in the 20th minute, getting on the end of Koke's strike from the edge of the box.
There was a long VAR check after the goal went in but it was still given, however Liverpool fans believed that Lemar was in the way of Matip and obstructed him by jumping in his way.
Is Lemar not offside?— Sam McGuire (@SamMcGuire90) October 19, 2021
We’ve been done there. Lemar clearly offside and influencing the play.— Chris (@Asterisk_LFC) October 19, 2021
Just to clarify though, I’m not even sure how there goal stood. I swear Lemar was interfering with play from an offside position?— Mo (@JackOfAllSpaces) October 19, 2021
I still can’t get over how bad that decision was not to rule the goal out for offside. How close does Lemar need to be to the ball to have interfered with the play?— CK (@ckazakis) October 19, 2021
Lemar was offside then. It was not a 50-50 decision. It was clear— amar singh (@amarjourno) October 19, 2021
So Lemar is offside and stops Matip from blocking the shot but that's fine apparently— Childish Fabinho (@ChiIdishFabinh0) October 19, 2021
Lemar 100% offside there and interfering with play. Impeding Matips ability to clear it. This should be chalked off.— Duel of the Iron Mic (@goldenarms0) October 19, 2021
I can't be arsed being bothered about it - it's a really good pass from Koke tbf - but is that not quite blatantly offside on Lemar? How exactly do they expect Matip to clear it?— David (@chattingwham) October 19, 2021
Lemar is offside as the shot is taken then runs towards the ball and hops over it as Matip is trying to clear. Not sure how that's not interfering??— Dizz (@jack2059) October 19, 2021

To make matters worse for the Reds, they went in at half time level, after Griezmann got his second of the game to make it 2-2.
Whilst there were questions about the refereeing for the first one, the questions were only about Liverpool's defending, as Virgil van Dijk missed Griezmann's run.
Things could have got worse for the Reds before the end of the brilliant opening 45 minutes, as the hosts finished the half on top.
For the neutrals it was certainly an excellent start to the game.
