Romano confirms Liverpool transfer target is set to join European giants instead

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Liverpool target Konrad Laimer is set to sign for Bayern Munich.

The Reds have endured a woeful season. Klopp’s side are currently languishing in ninth, some 10 points from the Champions League spots, and a further 19 from Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Liverpool’s decline has been largely down to midfield woes.

The experienced trio of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have all had dips in form and suffered injury problems throughout the campaign.

Meanwhile, fringe players Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave at the end of the season upon the expiry of their contracts, while Arthur Melo is likely to return to his parent club Juventus.

In turn, Klopp is hoping to lead a midfield rebuild in the summer. The club have been linked with England star Jude Bellingham, while World Cup Young Player of the Tournament Enzo Fernandez has also been cited as a target.

However, one player appears to have slipped through the club’s fingers.

Laimer to Bayern?

Laimer, who was widely reported as a Liverpool target, looks set to move from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old’s Leipzig contract is up at the end of the season, with the club reportedly keen to sell him this month for a fee rather lose him for nothing in June.

Transfer guru Romano tweeted: “Understand Konrad Laimer has finally signed his contract as new FC Bayern player starting from July 1.

“Deal done months ago and it’s now also sealed.

“Official statement will be very soon, probably already this month.”

Laimer has been a key player for Leipzig since 2017 when he joined from sister club RB Salzburg.

The Austria international was “open” to a move to Merseyside, according to 90min, while it was claimed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was keen to bring the player to Anfield.
