Liverpool dealt another major injury blow ahead of Brighton clash

Liverpool have been dealt a further injury blow with reports that forward Darwin Nunez is a doubt for their Premier League fixture against Brighton.

If he is confirmed to be out of the game, Nunez will join a Reds injury list that already contains the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Virgil van Dijk.

James Milner and Roberto Firmino have both been on the sidelines and are yet to make a return to first team action.

Meanwhile, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have recently recovered from long-term injuries suffered prior to the beginning of the Premier League season.

The injury problems have only added to growing concern over the Reds' domestic campaign. They lost out on the title last season by virtue of Manchester City winning their final league game of the campaign, but are currently 16 points behind leaders Arsenal after 17 games.

Whilst he took time to adapt to English football, Nunez is becoming one of Liverpool's most productive players. He showed his growing ability in the 2-2 FA Cup draw against Wolves, scoring a sublime first-time volley from inside the area following Trent Alexander-Arnold's lofted pass.

He now has 10 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this term - but may be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Liverpool's Nunez doubtful

According to The Telegraph, Nunez may not feature against Brighton due to injury.

Liverpool have not specified what the injury is, describing it simply as 'minor'. However, it has been enough to stop him from taking part in training for several days.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the Uruguayan is fit, given his low number of options in forward areas.

New signing Cody Gakpo can play centrally, as can Mohamed Salah, but that would leave gaps that need filling on both wings, should Klopp utilise his usual 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 styles.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has featured on the right of midfield in recent weeks, but his natural position is in the centre, whilst Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho also have experience of playing out wide.
