Lisandro Martínez Ruthlessly Snubbed Arsenal When They Approached Him Personally

Lisandro Martínez Ruthlessly Snubbed Arsenal When They Approached Him Personally

The centre-back is on the verge of joining Manchester United.

Lisandro Martinez personally rejected an approach from Arsenal on Wednesday so he could join former boss Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, according to reports.

The 24-year-old defender, who has been strongly linked with a move away from Eredivisie champions Ajax this summer, is on the verge of joining United in a £46 million deal following talks in Amsterdam this week.

A deal could be concluded as early as Thursday, according to the BBC, who suggest Martinez "is eager to make the switch" to Old Trafford.

It sounds like Martinez is extremely keen on joining the ranks at United.

In fact, the centre-back said "no" to Arsenal when Mikel Arteta's side made a personal approach this week, according to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, as he tried to pushed through a move.

A deal for the Argentine to join United is said to be imminent.

He is expected to join up with Erik ten Hag's squad on their pre-season tour this weekend, claim talkSPORT, who suggest the deal is set to be completed within the next 24 hours.

So what attributes will the versatile Martinez bring to this underachieving United side? Ten Hag, who helped the defender flourish during his time in Amsterdam, knows his quality.

"He can play left-back, left central defender and left controlling midfielder," he said last season. "He has good technique, overview on the ball, duelling power, but he has less walking ability, for example."

Known for his ball-playing ability, Martinez is also aggressive in the tackle and has previous of dealing with some of the world's best forwards.

In October last year, during Ajax's Champions League group stage clash against Borussia Dortmund, the centre-back pocketed the prolific Erling Haaland as the Dutch side picked up a 4-0 win.

As you can see in the footage below, Martinez's not only displayed an impressive range of passing from deep, but he hardly gave Manchester City's new number nine a sniff in front of goal.

Are United fans happy with the soon-to-be addition of Lisandro Martinez?
