Lionel Messi's luxury Ferrari 'cost more than Michael Jordan's entire salary in a single NBA season'

Lionel Messi's luxury Ferrari 'cost more than Michael Jordan's entire salary in a single NBA season'

Michael Jordan's salary with the Chicago Bulls in the 1997-98 season came in at roughly $3m shy of Lionel Messi's car value at auction.

Lionel Messi reportedly splashed out on a luxury sports car with more money than what Michael Jordan earned in an active NBA season in his illustrious playing career.

The Barcelona legend remains one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, with Messi inking a lucrative deal with Paris Saint-Germain back in 2021.

According to reports, Messi earns an eye-watering $62m salary in the French capital and receives an additional $48m through his endorsements.

The 35-year-old Argentine forward has built an incredible collection of luxury cars, including a Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti.

Goal reports that Messi's Ferrari 335 S is valued at a staggering $36m, with the Argentina captain picking up the sports car in an auction ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Ferrari 335 S, which has a 4.0 L engine and reaches up to a maximum speed of 300kmph, is worth more than what Jordan earned during one of his NBA seasons.

Jordan, who is considered one of the best basketball players of all time, built an incredible long-lasting legacy after his two spells with the Chicago Bulls.

The 60-year-old American superstar lifted a whopping six NBA championships with the Bulls, coupled with his impressive six NBA Finals MVP awards.

However, the most lucrative NBA season for ‘MJ’ was his time with the Bulls in the 1997-98 season after he pocketed a whopping $33.1m.

Messi’s ex-Barcelona teammate Ivan Rakitic previously told Toni Kukoc, who played with ‘MJ’ at the Bulls, a comparison can be made between the two sporting legends.

“For us in soccer, what Messi means is Michael Jordan in basketball,” he said in a video on NBA Europe’s YouTube channel.

“With both these two guys, they know that without the team behind they’ll never get all they did in their career.”
