Fans spot hilarious English dub for Lionel Messi's Barcelona speech in documentary series, it's priceless

"Finally someone has picked up on this, too." Barcelona legend Lionel Messi being dubbed over in English has left fans in stitches.

Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi’s spine-tingling speech at his final Barcelona press conference in 2021 received an English dub in Amazon’s documentary series.

Messi stunned the world in 2021 after making his exit from the Camp Nou, with Barcelona unable to push through a new contract due to La Liga’s spending rules.

The 35-year-old Argentine forward, who came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, had spent over a decade and a half in the Spanish club’s first team.

Barcelona teamed up with Amazon to produce a documentary series called ‘FC Barcelona: A New Era,’ which debuted on Prime Video last December.

The five-part series included Messi’s initial transfer request to leave Barcelona in 2020, as well as his final season at the club and eventual departure from the Camp Nou.

Messi broke down in tears at his farewell Barcelona press conference, with the Argentina captain receiving an incredible reception from those in attendance.

Twitter user JJ Bull left fans in stitches after sharing footage from the Amazon-produced Barcelona documentary, which featured an English dub for Messi.

“Made the doc unwatchable for me sadly,” one fan said.

Someone else sarcastically added: “That exactly how I would expect Messi to speak when using an English accent!”

A third wrote: “I watched about 15 minutes of it in English, but the dubbed-over commentary was too much [for] me, so I subtitled it and watched in Spanish.”

“I’ve always imagined Messi to sound like Warren Barton,” one fan tweeted.

And a fifth Twitter user posted: “Finally someone has picked up on this, too.”

Messi, who signed for PSG on a free transfer, insisted that he did “everything possible” to stay at Barcelona, including his readiness to cut his salary in half.

“The truth is that, as I explained on my way out, I did everything possible to stay, never at any time was I asked to play for free,” he told Spanish newspaper Sport in 2021.

“I was asked to cut my salary by 50 per cent and I did it without any problem. We were in a position to help the club more. The desire of me and my family was to stay in Barcelona.

“Nobody asked me to play for free but at the same time, it seems to me that the words said by the president are out of place.

“They hurt me because I think he doesn’t need to say that, it’s like getting the ball off you and not assuming its consequences, or taking charge of things.

“This makes people think or generates a type of doubt that I think I do not deserve.”
