The fax that Lionel Messi sent to Barcelona confirming his desire to leave the club has been 'leaked' online.

News broke on Tuesday that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner no longer sees his future with the Catalan giants.

Messi reportedly wants to leave the club as soon as possible and sent an official transfer request informing Barcelona of his decision.

Barca Theory on Instagram have shared an image of the alleged message along with an English translation.

The message reads: "By means of this letter, I, Lionel Andres Messi Cuccittini, with a white ID [blank], request that the employment benefit contract that I currently occupy in your distinguished club be terminated, based on clause number 24 that allows me to have this power.

"I appreciate all the opportunities for personal growth and professional preparation that were offered to me during the time I worked.

"Learnings that allowed me to consolidate my technical and human profile, but for personal reasons this [blank] difficult decision was made to me, which I hope will be made in the best way by the management of this club."

Messi's Barcelona future was plunged into doubt after Bayern Munich's 8-2 victory in the Champions League quarter-finals.

According to reports, Messi has requested that Barcelona refer to the clause in his contract that allows him to leave for a free at the end of every season.

The 33-year-old's contract clause expired in June, but his representatives believe it should have extended to August due to the coronavirus pandemic's impact on the football season.

Marcelo Bachler is reporting that Messi is keen on a sensational reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Bachler is the journalist who broke the news of Neymar's record breaking transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

David Ornstein of The Athletic also claims Messi has informed Guardiola of his interest in the move.
