Rio Ferdinand's prediction about England vs Scotland hasn't aged well at all, and it's the latest example of the pundit putting his foot in it.

England were expected to beat Scotland on Friday night, with most fans and pundits backing the Three Lions to beat their neighbours.

It was the feeling before the tournament but Scotland's loss to Czech Republic and England's win over Croatia, in each side's opening game to Euro 2020, had added to the perception.

Ferdinand certainly wasn't backing Steve Clark's side to come up with the goods at Wembley, when he previewed the game, and as usual his prediction has come back to bite him.

"It's a huge game. I can't wait. Nothing to fear, and we will go down and get our seat and watch it. Looking forward to it," the former centre back told BBC Sport.

"England are going to win. I can't see anything else, I'm telling you. I've never been this confident about a game in a major championship."

You have to feel a bit sorry for Ferdinand, no one really expected Scotland to play so well, or England, and specifically Harry Kane, to play so badly.

However it's not the first time the former Manchester United centre back has said something on punditry that's come back to haunt him, as will be the case with most pundits.

In March 2019, when United caused a huge shock to beat PSG in the Champions League last 16, Ferdinand declared the team 'were back.'

The Premier League club had overturned a two goal deficit to go through, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still only interim boss at Old Trafford, and the former defender wanted the manager to be given a long contract.

"Man United might not thank me, but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there -- given what he's done since he's come in -- and let him sign the contract and go," he told BT Sport.

"Ole's at the wheel, man -- he's doing his thing. Man United are back!"

Friday wasn't Rio's fault though, Gareth Southgate's team were affected by the ITV curse, with their record whilst playing on the channel particularly poor.

Unfortunately for them the final game of the group, against Czech Republic on Tuesday, is also on ITV...
