Gennaro Gattuso Goes Full Gattuso Just 90 Seconds Into Andrea Pirlo's Testimonial

The AC Milan manager smacked Nicola Ventola before sliding in on him and it was just minutes after he came on to celebrate Pirlo's career.

Andrea Pirlo's testimonial was rife with early 00s Serie A nostalgia that was an absolute dream and no Italian football from 10 years ago would be complete without a sliding challenge from Gennaro Gattuso.

Testimonials are always great, especially when it's between two sides made up of the player's mates and former teammates- one last chance for the old gang to dust off their boots and have a jolly good time.

Farewell Andrea, here's some of our favourite quotes from the classy midfielder:

That's exactly what we got for Andrea Pirlo's farewell at the San Siro on Monday night. Filippo Inzaghi rolled back the years with a second half hat-trick, of course it's much easier to 'roll back the years' when the defenders you're up against are also in their 40s.

One man who really did roll the years back and had a jolly good time doing it was Gennaro Gattuso, although in typical Gattuso fashion he wasn't about to let other people have a good time on his watch.

The former AC Milan midfielder came on in the second half and within 90 seconds of being on the pitch smacked former Inter and Atalanta striker Nicola Ventola on the back of the head and then chopped him down on the edge of the area:

Gattuso is now managing AC Milan and after the Rossoneri had a poor start to the season under Vincenzo Montella they improved under Gattuso and he led them into next season's Europa League.

Based on that challenge you have to assume that Gattuso's policy as a manager is 'Do as I say, not as I do,' well otherwise Milan would end up with about three players left on the pitch in every game.

In a brilliant game that only a testimonial could produce the match finished 7-7 with Inzaghi's late hat-trick providing the comeback for the Whites after the Blues had led for most of the game.

The list of goal scorers and assist makers for the game is just ridiculous; Pato, Vieri, Matri, Inzaghi, Shevchenko, Quagliarella, Cafu, Seedorf, Brocchi and Toni all scored with Del Piero, Pirlo, Di Natale, Leonardo, Totti, Cassano, Shevchenko, Serginho, all providing goals.

What a day!
